Shorewood Park - Home of the Loves Park Ski Broncs
235 Evelyn Av, Loves Park, IL, 61111

Welcome to Shorewood Park, home of the Ski Broncs!  We hope this Tournament User Guide helps you prepare for and enjoy a safe performance at our site.  Please feel free to contact us for more information: skibroncs@gmail.com.

Boat Launch

  1. Boats will launch at Martin Park, 0.8 mile upstream from show course. Boats and equipment trailers will be parked at Martin Park when not in use (NOT Shorewood).
  2. Shorewood Park launch ramp will not be accessible except for safety/emergency.

Water

  1. You’ll be performing on the Rock River.
  2. It has a current.
    1. Flow direction is right to left from spectator perspective.
    2. Speed is dependent on rainfall and river levels.
      1. Please be SAFE, and supervise performers especially near docks.
      2. Be aware of navigation, especially near docks.
  3. Nearly ¾ of a mile will be all yours for set-up, performance, and tear-down.
    1. River will be open to the public outside the end zones and remote docks.
    2. River will be open between shows to navigate from end-to-end along the far (west) shoreline.
    3. Individuals: At Chief Judge’s discretion, the river may be open/no wake for public navigation along the far (west) shoreline during swivel and doubles competition and stopped for freestyle jump and team jump.
  4. Depth is adequate in the entire performance area, including close to shore through most of course.  One exception is directly downstream from the island which is shallow and will be marked with a buoy.

Performance Beach, Stage & Docks

  1. Beach is nearly 350’ long and slopes gently into water.  It is safe to navigate boats near the beach and to “beach” the front of boats.
  2. Stage is center of the beach and measures 10’ x 100’ tapered at each end.  It is at the same level as the walkway in front of the bleachers, and three steps up from water/beach.  It is concrete with carpet.
  3. Main Dock / Performance Platform is located approximately 180’ from the center stage.  It is 20’ x 40’ carpeted and accessible by a full-width approach.  The entire front edge is usable for performance starts, along with approximately four feet of the approach.  This dock is immediately accessible from the staging area.
  4. Back Auxiliary Dock is 8’ x 24’ finished with vinyl decking and located approximately 450’ from the center stage (approximately 250’ behind the main dock).  Front edge is angled slightly away from shore in the direction of the center show course.  Front-side pulls allow for ease of navigation around the end of the main dock.  We recommend limiting back-side pulls from this dock due to compromised start angle and the direction of river current being away from dock (making navigation a challenge).  This dock is easily accessed via a pathway from the staging area.
  5. Remote Back Auxiliary Dock is 8’ x 54’ carpeted and located approximately 1,700 feet from the main dock (entrance to show course).  It is angled slightly away from shore in the direction of center show course, and allows a long, straight boat path to and through the show course.  This dock is NOT accessible via land.  River access only.

NOTE: It is now on the opposite side of the river from past years.

White dock on Google Maps image is not there now.

  1. Main Jump Ramp is located mid-course and mid-river and is approached from the front/right/north heading to the back/left/south.
  2. Mini-Ramp is located at the front/right end of the beach aimed at the center of the performance area. It is anchored independently with no adjoining dock.
  3. Front Auxiliary Dock is 8’ x 23’ carpeted and located approximately 450’ from center stage.  It is carpeted with the front/north edge angled slightly away from shore, facilitating pulls upstream, to the north.  We recommend limiting back-side pulls from this dock due to compromised start angle and the direction of river current being away from dock (making navigation a challenge).  This dock is easily accessed via land or river.
  4. Remote Front Auxiliary Dock is 8’ x 28’ and located on/near the east side of the island, approximately 1,700 feet from the show course. BEWARE, it floats a little high empty at 23”. This dock is NOT accessible via land.  River access only.
  5. Ski Broncs will NOT provide for this tournament:
    1. Motorized “barge”

Pick-up boat is available for teams to borrow, typically tied behind the left/back/south dock.

Dock and Boat for official use is stationed at the house immediately right/front/north of Shorewood Park. This will be manned with a rated driver and trained safety coordinator throughout the tournament.

Pre-Staging & Staging

  1. 3 Pre-Staging areas, each 1,200+ square feet, will be available.
  2. Staging/Set-Up area will include enclosed tent(s) for changing, full access to show course, and running (potable) water for drinking and cooling. **FOR SAFESPORT, PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR OWN ADULT MONITORS FOR THE CHANGING TENTS**

PLEASE NOTE:

Equipment parking for D1 (boats and equipment trailers) is at Martin Park. ALL boats and equipment trailers must be stored at Martin Park from Friday dusk until the tournament concludes, with the exception of pre-staged equipment trailers (first three teams in their pre-staging areas). Drive-throughs to load/unload equipment are ok. Overnight security will be provided at both parks, Friday and Saturday nights. PLEASE respect other teams and fans by not setting up a “team meeting/practice area” where we need to park cars! There is simply not enough room for every team to do this and still provide orderly and efficient parking.

Please let us know any way we can serve you and have a safe and enjoyable tournament in Loves Park! Thank you for joining us!!
